Overseasidol.com — Zhao Wei, the 49-year-old actress who rose to fame through her iconic role as Xiao Yanzi in My Fair Princess, has largely stayed out of the spotlight since her ban by Chinese authorities in 2021.

Labeled a “tainted celebrity,” she had kept a low profile for nearly four years.

However, recent rumors falsely linking her to telecom scams in northern Myanmar have brought her name back into the public eye.

On July 12, Zhao Wei’s older brother issued a statement condemning the malicious online content.

He revealed that some internet users had deliberately connected Zhao Wei to the scams using doctored images and cruel death curses. Outraged, the family reported the matter to the police.

Authorities later uncovered that one of the main perpetrators was, surprisingly, a lawyer.

During interrogation, the lawyer admitted to spreading the false rumors to gain attention and promote his services.

Zhao Wei’s brother also mentioned the emotional toll these attacks have taken on their family.

Their mother, often seeing the fake news, has been deeply affected, struggling to sleep at night due to worry and anger.

He defended his sister as a sincere and humble artist who has brought joy to many through her work.

“She’s not a financial agent or ‘female Buffett’ like people claim. She’s human, someone capable of love and pain,” e said.

Now, Zhao Wei has decided to speak up. No longer choosing silence, she has officially filed a lawsuit against those spreading defamatory rumors.

The court has accepted the case and will proceed with legal action.
