Overseasidol.com — Taiwanese actor and singer Aaron Yan is once again making headlines following a new court decision regarding his legal battle.
On September 1, Taiwanese media reported that after Yan was sentenced to a three-year probation in connection with a leaked intimate video scandal.
Several netizens posted harsh remarks online, accusing him of secretly recording and even calling him a “sex offender.”
Feeling that his reputation had been severely damaged, Yan filed defamation complaints against 14 internet users.
However, the Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office declined to indict them.
Yan then appealed to the High Prosecutors’ Office, but the request was also dismissed.
In the next step, he filed a self-initiated private prosecution, only for the Taipei District Court to reject it once again, ruling the case inadmissible and leaving no room for further appeal.
As a result, Aaron Yan’s legal attempt to sue the netizens ended in failure.
The outcome has sparked renewed debate online about the fine line between freedom of speech on social media and the rights of public figures to protect their reputations.
