Overseasidol.com — Indonesia’s idol scene was shaken after management of JKT48 officially announced the suspension of 11th generation member Gendis Mayrannisa.
The decision came after several controversial photos surfaced on social media in early February 2026.
The widely discussed images, which circulated on X and various fan accounts, allegedly show Gendis spending time with a man believed to be her boyfriend or someone she shares a close relationship with.
In some photos, the two are seen walking together. One particularly controversial image reportedly shows the man carrying Gendis in a piggyback-style pose, which many fans considered intimate.
Several accounts claimed the photos were authentic and not digitally manipulated or AI-generated.
The controversy quickly escalated due to JKT48’s strict no-dating policy, a system similar to that of its Japanese sister group, AKB48.
The rule is designed to preserve the idol image of purity and maintain a special emotional connection with fans.
In its official statement, JKT48 management confirmed that Gendis had provided an honest explanation regarding the incident.
However, the management emphasized that her lack of awareness as a member had caused public unrest and disappointment among supporters.
As a result, Gendis has been suspended from all activities until May 17, 2026.
During the suspension period, she will not participate in theater performances, public events, media appearances, or other official engagements.
The management hopes this time will allow her to reflect and return with a stronger sense of responsibility as a professional idol.
