Overseasidol.com — Chinese actress Zhao Liying has received a public apology following a court ruling in a defamation case involving online insults and false statements directed at her several years ago.
According to information recently published through Chinese legal and corporate records platforms, an individual identified by the surname Xu was ordered to issue an apology after being found liable for infringing upon Zhao Liying’s reputation rights.
Court documents revealed that between December 2017 and July 2018, Xu used a social media account to post and share content containing insulting and defamatory remarks about the actress.
The statements were determined to have negatively affected Zhao Liying’s public image and social reputation.
Following a legal review, the court concluded that Xu’s actions demonstrated a deliberate intent to insult and defame the actress.
Judges determined that the posts lowered public perception of Zhao Liying and caused reputational harm, constituting a violation of her legal rights.
In the published apology statement, Xu acknowledged the wrongdoing, expressed remorse, and stated that careful reflection had led to a full understanding of the consequences of those actions.
The individual also accepted responsibility for the infringement and offered a sincere public apology to Zhao Liying.
The case has attracted attention as another example of the growing legal efforts to combat online defamation and protect public figures from harmful misinformation.
In recent years, several Chinese celebrities have pursued legal action against individuals and accounts accused of spreading rumors, false allegations, and defamatory content on social media.
