Overseasidol.com — Taiwanese singer-songwriter Eli Hsieh has issued a public apology after failing to appear at a scheduled court hearing, a situation that sparked widespread discussion and concern among fans and the public.
In a lengthy statement shared late at night, the award-winning musician admitted that his absence had wasted judicial and public resources and caused unnecessary worry for those around him.
The case dates back to January 2024, when he was reportedly involved in an incident concerning his former girlfriend.
According to Taiwanese media reports, he was accused of attempting to threaten or harm his ex-partner and later allegedly disclosed her personal information while making public accusations online.
Following an investigation, prosecutors filed charges related to unlawful restriction of freedom and violations of personal data protection laws.
As the legal proceedings continued, Eli reportedly failed to attend several court sessions, drawing criticism and raising concerns about his cooperation with authorities.
His repeated absence became a major topic of discussion after court officials reportedly faced difficulties contacting him.
In his statement, Eli Hsieh explained that he did not intentionally avoid the hearing.
He claimed that official court notifications had been sent to his registered household address in Chiayi County, while he currently resides elsewhere.
As a result, he said he was unaware of the court schedule and did not receive the summons in time.
The singer revealed that he had voluntarily visited a local police station to clarify the situation and report himself.
According to Eli, law enforcement officers informed him that no arrest warrant had been issued and advised him to contact the court directly.
He emphasized that he is willing to fully cooperate with all legal procedures and provide any information required by judicial authorities.
