Overseasidol.com — Thailand has officially selected the movie “A Useful Ghost”, starring Mai Davika, Um Apasiri, Most Witsarut, and Wanlop Rungkamjad, as its entry for the 98th Academy Awards (Oscars 2026) in the Best International Feature Film category.
The announcement came from the Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand, which highlighted the film’s artistic excellence and international recognition as reasons behind the decision.
A Useful Ghost had its world premiere in May 2024 at the 78th Cannes Film Festival Critics’ Week, where it won the top honor, the Grand Prize AMI Paris.
With its distinctive storytelling, profound themes, and highly creative cinematic approach, the film has earned widespread acclaim from global critics.
According to Academy rules, contenders for Best International Feature must be produced outside the United States, run over 40 minutes, and feature more than 50 percent of dialogue in a non-English language.
The film must also be commercially screened for at least seven consecutive days. From 57 Thai films submitted this year, A Useful Ghost was unanimously chosen by the selection committee.
In its official statement, the Thai film federation called the film a national pride.
