Overseasidol.com — The high-profile case of Hong Kong socialite Abby Choi has taken another turn. Her former mother-in-law, Lee Seui Heung, was found guilty of obstructing justice in connection with the investigation of Choi’s ex-husband, Alex Kwong.

Choi went missing in February 2023. During the police investigation, CCTV recordings with audio revealed that Lee urged Choi’s mother not to disclose Alex’s contact details to authorities.

She also admitted she was “hiding something.” The court determined that Lee’s actions were an attempt to protect her son and hinder police work.

Lee, 65 and retired, denied the charge. She argued that her words were misunderstood and referred to private matters between Choi and Alex.

However, Judge Chen Kwong Chi stated that Lee intentionally misled authorities out of maternal instinct. She has been remanded in custody until her sentencing on October 28.

Court records also revealed that Alex Kwong had been wanted since 2015 for skipping bail in a theft case. Despite warnings from police in the past, Lee failed to cooperate.

On the night of Choi’s disappearance, CCTV showed Alex leaving an apartment with a bag while Lee appeared visibly anxious.

Abby Choi, who later married businessman Chris Tam, continued to support her children from her first marriage.

Evidence in court showed that Choi’s family had borne nearly all expenses, while her former in-laws provided no financial help.

This verdict adds another chapter to a tragic case that has captured global attention. The sentencing of Lee Seui Heung will be closely watched as part of the ongoing pursuit of justice for Abby Choi.
