Actor Hiroya Shimizu Released on Bail After Indictment for Cannabis Possession

Overseasidol.com — Japanese actor Hiroya Shimizu, 26, was released on bail from the Tokyo Wangan Police Station on September 24 following his indictment for violating the Cannabis Control Act.

Around 100 reporters gathered at the scene as Shimizu bowed twice for a total of about 20 seconds to apologize.

Shimizu was arrested on September 3 at his Tokyo residence on suspicion of possessing dried cannabis.

He was formally indicted on September 22. Appearing in a suit, he addressed the media and said, “I sincerely apologize for this incident,”. He first bowed deeply for about six seconds.

He then continued, “Through my actions, I caused great concern and trouble for many people. I deeply regret betraying the trust of fans and industry professionals who believed in my future as an actor. I am truly sorry,”.

After his statement, he bowed again for about 14 seconds before leaving.

Born on June 9, 1999, in Tokyo, Shimizu made his acting debut in the 2012 film Vibration.

He has since appeared in notable films such as The World of Kanako (2014), Solomon’s Perjury (2015), and Strayer’s Chronicle (2015).
