In a recent interview, he revealed that a routine medical check-up unexpectedly led to a diagnosis of thyroid cancer, a revelation that nearly broke him both physically and mentally.
William shared that he had written a will as early as 11 years ago, long before the diagnosis.
Reflecting on his younger years, he admitted that constant late nights and exhausting filming schedules, sometimes working up to 17 hours without rest, took a serious toll on his health.
After being diagnosed with cancer, he decided to revise his will once again, emphasizing that his biggest concern was ensuring his family would always be taken care of if anything happened to him.
Reports indicate that William Liao was diagnosed with stage two thyroid cancer between July and August 2025.
Due to the relatively large size of the tumors and his desire for a quicker recovery, he chose not to undergo minimally invasive surgery.
Instead, he opted for conventional surgical procedures. In September 2025, he underwent two surgeries that successfully removed tumors measuring approximately 3 centimeters and 1.1 centimeters.
The entire experience pushed him to his limits, both mentally and emotionally.
However, he expressed gratitude for making it through the ordeal and said the experience reshaped his outlook on life, health, and family.
