Overseasidol.com — It has been eight months since the passing of Hong Kong–American singer-songwriter Khalil Fong, who died on February 21 at the age of 41.
Fans continue to mourn his loss while his legacy remains deeply cherished.
On Tuesday, his label Fu Music and his estate management issued a joint statement to protect his artistic heritage in the age of artificial intelligence.
The statement declared a full reservation of rights and strictly prohibited the unauthorized use of Khalil Fong’s works for AI training or development.
This ban covers his recordings, lyrics, compositions, audiovisual content, as well as his name, image, likeness, texts, data, and metadata.
Any act of copying, machine learning, web scraping, or data development for training AI systems and large language models is explicitly forbidden.
The companies cited European Union directives and Hong Kong copyright laws, emphasizing that all rights are reserved to the fullest extent permitted by law.
They stressed that the restrictions apply not only to future works but also to all existing and already published materials.
If any third party wishes to use Khalil Fong’s works for AI-related purposes, they must first obtain clear authorization by contacting the estate via email.
The management holds full discretion to approve or deny such requests and to set relevant conditions.
This move is seen as a crucial step to defend intellectual property and honor the artist’s creativity amid the growing wave of AI technology.
Khalil Fong, who loved music until his final days, once said that despite his illness, countless ideas kept flowing in his mind.
He hoped listeners would embrace his authentic voice. The estate reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the purity of his artistry for generations to come.
