Overseasidol.com — Chinese authorities have officially launched a nationwide campaign to curb the misuse of artificial intelligence in online video content.

According to information released on January 15 by the National Radio and Television Administration, a month-long special enforcement action has been underway since January 1, 2026, targeting so-called “AI magic edit” videos across the country.

The campaign specifically focuses on AI-generated content derived from classic literary works, historical dramas, revolutionary themes, and portrayals of national heroes and exemplary figures.

Regulators believe such manipulated videos risk distorting historical facts, undermining cultural values, and misrepresenting the original meaning of influential works and personalities.

Several online audiovisual platforms have already published their second-week enforcement reports, revealing the removal of content, restrictions on problematic accounts, and stricter review mechanisms for AI-generated videos.

These measures aim to restore order in the digital content ecosystem and prevent the abuse of advanced technology for misleading or sensational purposes.

Through this initiative, authorities reaffirm their determination to protect cultural heritage and historical integrity in the digital era.
