Overseasidol.com — Directed by Li Shaohong, the anti-drug drama “Hunting” will premiere online on September 25 on iQiyi and Tencent Video, while also airing nightly at 7:30 PM on Jiangsu TV.
The series stars Wang Yang, Zhang Youhao, Yu Haoming, and Deng Enxi, and is adapted from Ding Yihe’s novel “Operation Hurricane: Encirclement”.
The story follows narcotics officer Yang Yipeng, played by Wang Yang, who spends years relentlessly hunting down a fugitive drug lord.
Through perseverance and teamwork, the criminal is finally brought to justice.
The series highlights the new challenges of synthetic drugs in the “post-methamphetamine era,” extending its lens from traditional drug deals to hidden online networks.
Producer Shen Shen explained at a preview screening that the drama aims to raise public awareness of how drug crimes have become invisible, digital, and intelligent.
Viewers will see realistic scenarios such as synthetic drugs disguised as postage stamps, trafficking via social apps and gaming platforms, and cross-border criminal collaborations.
Director Li Shaohong emphasized that narcotics officers face unique dangers compared to other investigators, as they must work undercover in the lowest layers of society.
Their opponents are often desperate fugitives, making every mission a life-or-death struggle.
Her encounters with real narcotics officers inspired many characters, including veteran cop Luo Zhongkui, portrayed by Yu Ailei.
Beyond thrilling raids, Encirclement also portrays the personal struggles of officers like Yang Yipeng and Wu Jianguo.
Their family dilemmas, emotional conflicts, and human warmth under immense pressure make them more than just heroic symbols.
With a grounded storytelling style and cinematic visuals, the series delivers both realism and emotional depth, presenting a vivid picture of China’s fight against drugs in the new era.
