Overseasidol.com — Taiwanese actor Darren Wang remains embroiled in legal controversy as a court in New Taipei City continued hearings on a case involving alleged violations of the Personal Data Protection Act.

The case stems from efforts to help his girlfriend, Que Muxuan, recover a large sum of money allegedly owed by a man surnamed Pan.

During the hearing held on January 21, Wang and Que Muxuan both pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In contrast, several co-defendants, including Wang’s wealthy friend You Xiangmin and Chen Zijun, a figure linked to organized groups, admitted their wrongdoing and requested leniency.

The court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on April 22. Following the hearing, Chen Zijun exited the courthouse without addressing the media.

Darren and Que Muxuan also declined to comment on whether they were confident of an acquittal, while You Xiangmin did not appear publicly.

In his defense, Darren stated that he was previously deceived by Chen Zhiming and only asked friends to help locate the individual.

He explained that after filing a police report, he learned the person was already incarcerated.

Wang emphasized that his messages in a group chat never disclosed identifiable personal information, arguing that his actions did not constitute a breach of data protection laws.

His legal team echoed this position, asserting that vague phrases such as “found him” or “already in prison” were insufficient to identify any specific individual and therefore did not violate the law.

Que Muxuan’s lawyer argued that the case originated from a fraud involving more than four million New Taiwan dollars.

Although the perpetrator was sentenced to prison, promised repayments never materialized.

After years of waiting, Que sought assistance from You Xiangmin to locate the debtor, without any intention or awareness that illegal data collection would occur.

Que Muxuan reiterated that she did not personally gather any private information, while Darren maintained that he had no involvement in such actions.

You Xiangmin, meanwhile, admitted fault, apologized to those affected, and expressed remorse, stating that his time in detention had led to deep reflection.
