Overseasidol.com — Donnie Yen has drawn attention following his latest interview in which he reflected on his working experience abroad.
When asked whether he had ever faced discrimination while working internationally, the acclaimed martial arts actor responded candidly, saying that discrimination exists everywhere and the best way to deal with it is through proof of ability.
“You need to prove yourself through strength. Show others what you can do,” he said.
Yen revealed that during his early days in Hollywood, he was not treated with proper respect.
He recalled greeting the producer every day, only to be ignored. “They acted as if I didn’t exist, as if I were just a part of the background,” he explained.
He added that in such an industry, sometimes it takes time to demonstrate one’s value and earn recognition.
Today, Donnie Yen stands in a very different position. It was recently announced that he will star in and direct the upcoming John Wick spin-off film titled Caine.
With this project, he becomes the first Asian actor to both lead and direct a major Hollywood franchise film, and the first Chinese actor to be entrusted with such a responsibility.
Yen’s journey is widely viewed as a testament to perseverance and professional strength, heightening anticipation for his newest film among global action-movie enthusiasts.
