Overseasidol.com — Chinese actor Du Chun’s wife, Wang Can, has responded to recent accusations that she “insulted” South Korean actress Song Hye Kyo, a claim that quickly went viral across Chinese social media.
In her clarification, Wang Can firmly denied having any ill intentions and expressed frustration over the choice of words used by netizens.
“You can say that I don’t look like Song Hye Kyo, that’s fine. But don’t say I ‘insulted’ her.
That word really bothers me,” Wang Can said during a livestream. “If someone said I looked like a Chinese actress, I would even feel proud. But saying I look like Song Hye Kyo and that it’s an insult to her? That’s just wrong.”
She emphasized that she respects all actresses and had no intention of comparing herself to anyone.
“You can say I don’t resemble her, and that’s okay. But please don’t use hurtful words. I just want people to speak kindly,” she added.
Earlier, Wang Can had already addressed online comments calling her a “stand-in” or “look-alike” of Song Hye Kyo.
At that time, she humbly replied, “Every time I see those comments, I feel a little sad. I’m not as beautiful as her, and I’m not anyone’s substitute, I’m just myself,”.
Despite her explanation, some netizens still claimed that Wang Can’s demeanor and expressions resembled Song Hye Kyo’s.
However, many fans defended her, saying that such comparisons were unnecessary and unfair.
The controversy sparked heated discussions online, with several social media users urging others to be more considerate and avoid using offensive language that could hurt someone’s feelings.
