Overseasidol.com — The highly anticipated historical drama Swords into Plowshares officially held its global launch event in Hangzhou on January 18.
The event was attended by leading cast members including Bai Yu, Zhou Yutong, Ni Dahong, Dong Yong, Zhu Yawen, and Yu Haoming, drawing significant attention from both media and fans.
Set against the backdrop of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period to the early Northern Song Dynasty, Swords into Plowshares centers on the historical moment of political unification.
The story follows Qian Hongchu, ruler of the Wuyue Kingdom portrayed by Bai Yu, and Emperor Zhao Kuangyin of the Northern Song, played by Zhu Yawen.
Through Qian Hongchu’s journey to Bianliang, his bond with Zhao Kuangyin, and the looming threat of Khitan invasions, the drama vividly portrays the turbulence, sacrifices, and determination behind the unification of China.
Speaking at the event, Bai Yu shared his emotional response upon returning to the filming location.
He recalled how the cast had visited the site before filming began as part of their preparation.
This time, however, the experience felt profoundly different, bringing a sense of warmth and inner peace.
Bai Yu expressed his hope that Swords into Plowshares would deliver wishes of peace and stability to audiences as the new year begins.
Zhou Yutong, who plays Sun Taizhen, also opened up about her deep connection to the character.
Sun Taizhen evolves from a carefree young woman into the queen of the Wuyue Kingdom, a transformation shaped by wisdom, clarity, and responsibility.
Zhou explained that the journey to Bianliang shared by Sun Taizhen and Qian Hongchu marked a powerful turning point, exposing them to the harsh realities beyond their sheltered upbringing.
What was once distant suffering suddenly became impossible to ignore.
She emphasized that what moved her most was the characters’ willingness to confront reality, abandon the illusion of a perfect world, and take responsibility for the greater good.
Zhou Yutong revealed that she was already overwhelmed with emotion during the speeches at the launch event.
