Overseasidol.com — Recently, a curious incident involving actor Wang Hedi (also known as Dylan Wang) went viral online.
The topic “Wang Hedi’s used tableware displayed in a restaurant” shot up the trending charts in China.
It was revealed that in 2023, Dylan Wang dined at a noodle shop in Xi’an.
After his visit, the restaurant placed the bowl and chopsticks he used under a glass cover, displaying them as a check-in photo spot for fans.
However, the move sparked widespread debate.

Many netizens criticized the shop for “idolizing celebrities to an unhealthy degree” and argued that it was disrespectful to Dylan himself.
Some called the display “over the top” and said it contributed to excessive fan culture.
On June 20, the restaurant’s owner, Mr. Jia, responded to the backlash in an interview with Red Star News.
He clarified that the display was originally set up due to requests from fans who wanted a memorable photo opportunity.
“Yes, the tableware was used by Wang, but it was cleaned thoroughly before being placed,” he explained.
He denied the notion that it was being “worshipped,” and emphasized that it was meant to be lighthearted.
Following the controversy, Mr. Jia confirmed that the display was taken down on June 19 to avoid further misunderstandings and public criticism.
