Overseasidol.com — On September 28, rumor that quickly went viral on Chinese social media claimed that a 28-year-old short film director surnamed Li had died of exhaustion while filming in Hengdian, a well-known film production hub in Zhejiang.
However, authorities and multiple sources have now confirmed that the information is entirely false.
The story first emerged through a social media post alleging that the young director passed away after working late nights on set.
The claim sparked widespread concern and was rapidly shared by users, including some individuals working in the entertainment industry.
When contacted by Jimu News, an actress currently working on a film set in Hengdian confirmed that she had heard about the incident and even reposted the news on her social media.
Nevertheless, she admitted she couldn’t verify whether the information was accurate.
Officials from the local Hengdian town government stated that they had no knowledge of such an incident and suggested reaching out to Hengdian World Studios.
A representative from the studio also denied any awareness of the director’s alleged death, adding that if such a tragedy had actually occurred, they would have been informed immediately.
The original post that fueled the rumor has since been deleted. Additionally, another social media account, “Dongyang Football,” reported that after verifying with several reliable sources, the news about the director’s death was false and unsubstantiated.
Later in the evening, around 9:00 PM, a spokesperson from the local police station confirmed to Jimu News that the circulating rumors were fabricated. In fact, the director in question, Mr. Li, personally came to the police station to report the incident and initiate an investigation into the false allegations and defamation.
This incident serves as a strong reminder of the dangers of misinformation in the digital age, emphasizing the importance of verifying facts before sharing potentially harmful content online.
