Overseasidol.com — On October 4, the Chinese spy movie “Sound of Silence” held its premiere in Beijing.
Producer Rao Xiaozhi, director Wan Li, and lead actors Tan Jianci and Wang Yanhui attended the post-screening event to engage in discussions with the audience.
The premiere attracted significant attention, highlighting the movie’s powerful story and strong performances.
The film follows Li Qi, a lawyer from a deaf family who becomes entangled in a large-scale fraud case targeting the hearing-impaired community.
While he initially benefits from the case, he gradually realizes the scam is far more complex than expected.
The story explores human struggles, moral dilemmas, and the thin line between justice and self-interest.
Actor Huang Xiaoming also appeared at the event, joking that Tan Jianci personally “dragged” him to attend.
He went on to praise both the movie and Tan’s acting, saying, “This is truly an excellent film, beyond my expectations. I have played a legal aid lawyer before, but this movie is better, more complete, and closer to what I imagine a Chinese legal aid lawyer should be. In this genre, it is the best I have seen,”.
Huang added, “Every small detail in Tan Jianci’s performance, his eyes, subtle facial movements, and emotions was impressive. He is a great actor, and his success comes from talent, hard work, and integrity. I look forward to seeing him win Best Actor soon,”.
Tan Jianci shared his reflections on the role, saying that he could strongly empathize with the character.
“Li Qi is an ordinary man, and ordinary people are multi-faceted. He had to face many challenges to achieve victory.
His gray areas may have come from bullying and humiliation in his youth, which shaped a protective shell around him. But behind that, you can still see his vulnerability and the price he pays,” he said.
Actress Li Jingjing also praised Tan Jianci as a hardworking young actor, saying that some of his scenes moved her deeply.
The film is partly inspired by the real-life experiences of lawyer Zhang Qi, a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), who also attended the event.
He expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you to the creative team for bringing such a grounded story to the screen.
And to Tan, through your portrayal, you’ve encouraged many fans to pay attention to this community and spread love to the world,”.
