Overseasidol.com — Korean hit drama “Extraordinary You” will get a Chinese remake this year.
This news comes after Hunan TV unveiled its 2025 Mango TV drama lineup, sparking excitement among viewers.
Among the upcoming titles, “A Day in July” quickly stood out, drawing attention as it is reportedly a remake of the well-loved Korean drama “Extraordinary You”.
Originally airing in 2019, “Extraordinary You” became an unexpected hit despite its low production budget.
The series was praised for its fresh storyline, which follows a comic book side character who suddenly gains self-awareness.
Lead actors Kim Hye-yoon and Rowoon received acclaim for their performances.
The show once held a high rating of 8.8 on Douban, though it later dropped to 7.7 due to a controversial and divisive ending.
The Chinese adaptation, A Day in July, is said to have legally acquired the rights to the original manhwa titled July Found by Chance.
This new version centers on a side character named A Qi, who unexpectedly becomes aware of her existence as merely a background figure in a comic book.
In an attempt to escape her drawn fate, she forms a pact with another overlooked character known as Number Thirteen.
With conflicting goals—one fighting to live, the other seeking an end—they work together to challenge the comic’s fixed storyline.
Filming is expected to begin in early July in Xiamen.
The lead roles are reportedly cast with actress Shen Yue and actor Edward Chen, two young stars known for their appeal in youth dramas.
Adding to the buzz, rising actor Tian Xuning, who recently went viral, is rumored to play the third male lead.
His growing popularity has brought even more anticipation to the series, despite it still being in pre-production.
