Overseasidol.com — Chinese actor Cao Tiankai has come under public scrutiny following comments he made about Thailand during a live stream, which sparked backlash among Thai fans.
The remarks were made while he was livestreaming during a makeup session for an upcoming short drama, where he casually interacted with viewers and spoke about travel.
During the conversation, Cao mentioned that although some celebrity friends often invite him to visit Thailand, he feels hesitant about going there, joking that he is afraid of being “sold” if he travels there.
He went on to describe himself as someone who is not very alert when going out and could easily be tricked, exaggerating that if someone offered him candy, he might simply follow along.
He humorously added that he could land at the airport and “disappear” within half an hour. Cao also said that he prefers traveling within China, noting that he has not yet explored all of his own country.
These comments quickly drew criticism from Thai fans, many of whom felt the remarks were inappropriate and disrespectful. Some expressed disappointment, stating that it was unfair to judge a country he had never visited.
On social media, several fans announced they would stop supporting him, while others hoped his dramas would not be introduced to the Thai market.
Cao Tiankai is currently 36 years old and hails from Jiangsu, China. He has been active in the entertainment industry for about ten years.
