Overseasidol.com — The legal battle between Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung and her former manager Yu Yuxing, along with Aeg Entertainment Group Limited, continued at the High Court today.
Cecilia appeared in person to testify regarding allegations that she breached her management and film contracts.
During her testimony, Cecilia revealed that since beginning her career in 1998 at the age of 18, she had worked with two previous managers: Chu Wing Lung and Chen Lan (“Madam Xiang Tai”).
She stated that when signing an exclusive management contract, the most important factor for her is not the financial terms or duration, but mutual trust and personal integrity.
“If someone is good and trustworthy, I’m willing to work with them for a lifetime,” she said.
Cecilia also spoke about her longtime assistant, Zhou Jingyi, who was first assigned to her when she joined China Star Entertainment.
Zhou later left the company and continued working with Cecilia, becoming one of the closest people in her professional and personal life.
Cecilia described their relationship as one that has long surpassed traditional professional boundaries, explaining that they had gone through “many hardships together”.
She added that she entrusted Zhou with her personal financial matters, including bank card details and passwords.
According to Yu Yuxing’s filing, he and Cecilia allegedly signed a Global Exclusive Management Contract in July 2011 and a two-film agreement in May 2012.
Yu claimed he had advanced a total of 42.76 million yuan to Cecilia as payment for upcoming films, with the expectation that she would star in six movie projects.
Yu now accuses her of breaching the agreements and seeks at least 12.76 million yuan in damages.
Cecilia’s legal team disputes the claims entirely, arguing that the so-called global management contract was forged, including a signature on the document that they claim is not hers.
They also assert that it was Yu who later chose not to proceed with further collaborations or offer new film roles.
