Overseasidol.com — Chinese singer Hua Chenyu has officially announced his upcoming concert in Wenchang, scheduled for November 28–30, 2025, at the Wenchang International Aerospace City Rocket Industrial Park.
While fans were thrilled by the news, it quickly led to an unexpected issue, a sharp spike in hotel and guesthouse prices across the city.
Just one day after the announcement, multiple social media users reported that accommodation costs near the concert venue had soared dramatically.
Some homestays that typically charged around 400 yuan per night were suddenly listed at 1,500 yuan or more, marking an increase of over 200 percent.
Fans expressed frustration online, saying that finding affordable lodging during the concert weekend had become nearly impossible.
On November 3, 2025, a representative from the Wenchang Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism responded to public concern, stating that visitors who encounter unreasonable price hikes can report the issue directly by calling the 12345 hotline.
The bureau confirmed that several hotels have already published maximum guidance prices set by local authorities.
According to the official, hotels included in the guideline list are required to follow the regulated pricing standards.
For those not listed, pricing should refer to the guidance rates typically applied during rocket launch events, as Wenchang is home to China’s key aerospace facilities.
This phenomenon isn’t new for the city, Wenchang often experiences temporary price surges whenever large-scale events or rocket launches take place.
However, the local government emphasized its commitment to protecting both tourists and local businesses, ensuring that economic opportunities don’t turn into unfair exploitation.
