Chinese singer Jane Zhang recently revealed that the organizer of one of her concerts was fined after she performed too many songs in an acapella format.

Her statement quickly sparked debate online, with many people assuming that singing without instrumental accompaniment was the direct reason for the penalty.

However, legal expert Li Zhenwu clarified on June 21 that the issue was not related to the acapella performances themselves.

Instead, the fine was imposed because the concert included unapproved content that had not been listed in the original program submitted to authorities.

Under China’s Regulations on the Administration of Commercial Performances, any changes to an approved performance lineup or program must receive additional authorization.

Adding songs or improvisational segments without prior approval can lead to administrative penalties.

According to Li, these regulations are designed to ensure content safety, copyright compliance, and smooth event operations.

Authorities review performance materials to prevent content that violates public standards or infringes on intellectual property rights.

Unplanned segments may also extend the duration of a concert, affecting venue schedules, crowd management, security arrangements, and post-event logistics.

Chinese regulations state that organizers who alter performance programs without renewed approval may receive warnings and face fines of up to 30,000 yuan. (Overseasidol.com)
