Overseasidol.com — On June 4, Taiwanese actor and singer Jiro Wang voiced his frustration during a livestream over the skyrocketing demand and inflated resale prices of the trending designer toy Labubu.
He openly criticized scalpers for hoarding the limited-edition figures and reselling them at exorbitant prices, making it nearly impossible for true collectors and fans to purchase them fairly.
“I’m honestly so annoyed with those scalpers,” Wang exclaimed during the broadcast.
“They buy up all the Labubu figures in bulk and then jack up the prices. It’s so infuriating! I want to buy one too, but I can’t get my hands on any,” he said.
While acknowledging that one could technically still purchase a Labubu figure by paying two to three times its original price, Wang firmly discouraged such actions.
“We can’t let these scalpers win. Don’t feed into their game by paying the inflated prices. I call them evil people,” he said.
Labubu, the quirky and lovable character from The Monsters series created by artist Kenny Wong, has become a collector’s favorite across Asia.
Its limited releases and unique aesthetic have led to intense demand, often causing items to sell out immediately upon launch.
Unfortunately, this popularity has attracted opportunistic resellers who exploit the hype for profit.
Wang’s bold remarks were met with widespread agreement online. Fans and netizens flooded social media with comments echoing his sentiments, expressing their own frustration with the scalper culture.
Many praised Wang for taking a stand and urged fellow enthusiasts to resist supporting the secondhand market unless prices remain fair.
