Overseasidol.com — Chinese actor Yu Menglong’s sudden death has sparked heated debate across the entertainment industry and among fans.
The 37-year-old star reportedly fell from a residential building in Beijing on September 11. Authorities quickly ruled out foul play, labeling it an “alcohol-related accidental fall.”
However, many insiders and netizens doubt the official statement. Discussions suggest Yu may have long suffered from company and agent control.
Actress Sun Lin even posted an acrostic poem on social media calling for the case to be reopened, before the post was swiftly deleted. She questioned, “What are they so afraid of?,”.
Online, netizens dug into Yu’s management company, Tianyu Media, which has signed numerous talents from talent shows.
Shockingly, reports allege at least nine contracted artists have died unnaturally or gone missing. Speculation grew that Yu’s death could be connected to company practices.
Old footage from a 2019 variety show resurfaced, where famous host He Jiong revealed harsh truths about agency contracts.
He said companies often sign 100 young boys through talent shows but only push one to fame, abandoning the others.
These neglected artists often end up paying huge termination fees, sometimes over 500,000 RMB. “In the end, agencies profit from contract buyouts,” He concluded.
Yu himself once admitted his manager signed contracts behind his back. In a 2020 program, he revealed he hesitated to join but the agent signed without his consent.
Now, nearly a month after his passing, suspicions continue to grow. Some netizens even uncovered that Yu’s studio had registered trademarks linked to arms trade, fueling speculation of money laundering.
With so many parallels, conspiracy theories have emerged, suggesting powerful forces are manipulating the industry.
Fans argue that stars may be used as scapegoats, while the real operators remain hidden. The case continues to cast a shadow over China’s entertainment world.
