Overseasidol.com — Ruyi Films, formerly known as Wanda Film, has reported a significant decline in its financial performance for the first quarter of 2026.

The company recorded revenue of 2.998 billion yuan, marking a 36.33 percent decrease year-on-year. Net profit also dropped sharply by 89.53 percent to approximately 86.91 million yuan.

According to the company, the decline reflects broader challenges in China’s film industry.

During the first quarter, the national box office totaled 11.88 billion yuan, representing a 51.3 percent drop compared to the same period last year.

This downturn was attributed to a high comparison base in 2025 and shifts in film content supply.

The weaker market conditions also impacted the company’s domestic cinema operations.

Box office revenue from its directly operated theaters in China reached 1.72 billion yuan, down nearly 50 percent year-on-year, putting short-term pressure on overall performance.

However, the company’s overseas business provided a positive contrast.

Its cinema operations in Australia performed strongly, generating 75.95 million Australian dollars in box office revenue, up 26.3 percent.

The company maintained its leading market share in the region.

In terms of film production and distribution, the company still achieved solid results.

Titles such as Pegasus 3 and Boonie Bears received positive audience responses and performed well at the box office.
