Overseasidol.com — The Chinese short-drama industry is under the spotlight after actor Bai Fangwen publicly demanded unpaid wages during a live stream on February 1.
Holding a sign that read “Return My Hard-Earned Money,” he called out the production company behind the short drama Lao Pian Men 2, claiming he has yet to receive his salary.
During the broadcast, Bai Fangwen stated that filming for the series wrapped last year, but his payment has still not been settled.
He urged the production company, identified as Chu Huai Culture, to clear outstanding wages before releasing the drama.
According to him, it is unfair to launch and promote a project while actors’ compensation remains unresolved.
Tensions escalated when an individual claiming to represent the production company entered the live chat.
Bai Fangwen confronted the person directly, saying that legal proceedings regarding the payment dispute have already been ongoing for nearly three months without any meaningful response.
He also criticized the continued promotion of the drama despite the unresolved financial issue.
Public records show that Lao Pian Men 2 began production and completed filming in May 2025.
However, instead of promotional buzz for its release, the project is now facing controversy due to the actor’s public claims.
Bai Fangwen, whose real name is Jiao Peikai, is a familiar face in the short-drama scene.
He has starred in several popular web series, including Wu Shuang, Prison Love Addiction, Quan Chong Tian Xia, The Queen of Hairpins, and We Grow Wild.
In 2025, he was also recognized as one of the “Outstanding Actors of the Year” at a major digital creators’ awards event.
