Overseasidol.com — The highly anticipated film “The Volunteers: Peace at Last” officially premiered on September 30, 2025.
This is marking the final installment in the celebrated “The Volunteers” trilogy.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Chen Kaige, the film starred by Zhang Zifeng, Song Jia, Zhu Yawen, Arthur Chen Feiyu, Peng Yuchang, Xiao Yang, and Wang Yanhui, with special appearances by Wang Ting, Guo Xiaodong, Li Chen, Du Jiang, Feng Shaofeng, and Yan Ni.
Produced by China Film Co., Ltd., this 120-minute historical war drama was created as a tribute to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War victory.
The film presents a panoramic and multi-layered depiction of China’s decision to send troops to Korea and the eventual signing of the ceasefire agreement.
It focuses on the intense period after the Fifth Campaign of the Korean War, where combat and peace negotiations took place simultaneously.
Key battles like the Battle of Triangle Hill (Shangganling) and Battle of Kumsong (Jincheng) are vividly portrayed, showing the brutal reality on the frontlines.
Meanwhile, at the negotiation table, Chinese diplomats engaged in fierce debates to protect national dignity and strive for peace.
After 158 major meetings, 733 smaller discussions, and 5 interruptions, the truce was signed after 747 days, setting a world record for the longest ceasefire negotiation in military history.
Filming took place at the Hengfeng Film Base, where the historical site Laifengzhuang was recreated at full scale to bring authenticity to the scenes.
The previous films in the series also achieved remarkable success. “The Volunteers: To The War” won over audiences during the 2023 National Day holiday, while “The Volunteers: The Battle of Life and Death” led the box office in 2024.
Director Chen Kaige shared that this final chapter highlights the collective efforts of ordinary soldiers, negotiators, and logistical units.
The film tells a multi-front story that reveals the full scope of a war that shaped history.
“The Volunteers: Peace at Last” stands as a powerful reminder of the sacrifice and unity that brought peace after relentless struggle.
