Instead of impressing viewers, the video quickly attracted negative feedback, with many saying the visuals looked rough, unnatural, and far below the standard expected for a major drama production.
One of the biggest points of criticism was the facial distortion seen in multiple scenes.
The character meant to represent Wang Churan appeared warped and unrealistic, leading some viewers to mistake the figure for another actress due to the inaccurate AI rendering.
The overall visual style of the video was also heavily criticized.
Online users described the effects as “eerie” and “unsettling” pointing out the stark contrast between the AI clip and the drama’s official stills, which feature elegant costumes and refined production design, including ornate red outfits and flowing blue garments inspired by Dunhuang aesthetics.
As criticism spread across social media, many accused the production of delivering a rushed and low-effort promotional strategy.
Shortly after the backlash intensified, the AI promotional video was quietly deleted from the studio’s official account.
