Overseasidol.com — Chinese actor Yin Zheng recently shared a candid reflection on the emotional challenges he faced while portraying a Japanese character in a film.

In a recent interview, he admitted that the role required intense psychological preparation and left a lasting impact on him long after filming had wrapped.

Yin Zheng explained that, as a Chinese actor, playing a Japanese invader was extremely difficult on a personal level.

He revealed that after leaving the set and returning to his daily life, he often felt deeply uncomfortable, describing the experience as emotionally “disgusting”.

According to him, he was portraying a character he personally despised, which made separating himself from the role particularly challenging.

The actor emphasized that the historical sensitivity surrounding the role added to the emotional burden.

He needed a long period of time to fully step out of the character, as the negative feelings associated with the role lingered well beyond the end of production.

Previously, Yin Zheng starred in the film Gezhi Town, where his portrayal of a Japanese character was so realistic that Jin Chengmin, director of the Unit 731 Crimes Evidence Museum, reportedly mistook him for a Japanese national.

Yin Zheng immediately denied the assumption, firmly stating multiple times that he is absolutely not Japanese.

Yin Zheng’s honest remarks have sparked discussion online, with many netizens praising his dedication and professionalism while also acknowledging the emotional weight actors carry when portraying historically sensitive and controversial roles.
