Overseasidol.com — Thai director Tome Yuthlert has declared himself the sole copyright holder of the classic horror film “Rahtree” and accused production company Be On Cloud of copyright infringement, demanding 100 million baht in compensation.
Be On Cloud previously stated that it had acquired legal rights from Film Republic and clarified that their project was not a sequel but a reimagining with a new storyline and design.
However, Tome insisted that the original contract had been terminated and that the company has “no right to create any related content”.
His legal team has already issued a formal notice with a 30-day deadline, warning of court action if ignored.
Tome stressed that the alleged infringement involves not only the title but also character settings, plot structures, and key creative elements.
He criticized the lack of communication and even called out his former friend, director Ping Lumpraploeng, describing him as an enemy for avoiding dialogue.
The director warned that if Be On Cloud continues, he will escalate the case to the Ministry of Culture and may double his compensation claim to 200 million baht if funding applications are found misleading.
“There are only two outcomes,” he said firmly. “Prison or payment,”.
Despite his strong stance, Tome admitted he would consider reducing the claim if Be On Cloud issued a sincere apology.
He also revealed that this dispute has inspired him to possibly reboot Buppah Rahtree himself.
“I’ve stayed quiet for years. Maybe it’s time to bring it back,” he said.
