Overseasidol.com — China’s National Radio and Television Administration has intensified its efforts to regulate the spread of misleading AI-generated content, launching a large-scale cleanup campaign starting in January 2026.
The initiative specifically targets so-called “AI-modified” videos that distort original works and cultural materials.
During the month-long operation, authorities focused on content that altered classic Chinese literature, historical narratives, revolutionary themes, and portrayals of national role models.
In addition, inappropriate or “distorted” animated content was also removed.
As a result, more than 23,000 violating videos were taken down, and over 100 accounts faced enforcement actions.
The crackdown has since evolved into a long-term regulatory mechanism.
Beginning February 1, authorities required major online video platforms to strengthen content review systems, improve detection capabilities, and conduct regular audits to prevent further violations.
By March 31, the total number of removed illegal videos had reached nearly 29,000, with dozens more accounts sanctioned.
Officials say these measures have effectively curbed the spread of harmful AI-generated content and improved the overall online media environment.
