Chinese actor Zhu Yilong has addressed the controversy surrounding his appearance at a Great Wall event after online discussions questioned the origin of the drum used during his performance.

In a statement released on June 16, 2026, Zhu’s studio said it had urged the event organizer to review and verify the entire process related to the instrument featured at the event.

The debate began after social media users claimed that the drum resembled a traditional Japanese taiko drum.

Others argued that it was instead a recreation of a traditional Chinese percussion instrument.

Zhu Yilong’s studio emphasized that the actor has always been committed to promoting and respecting Chinese traditional culture.

The statement also acknowledged the importance of stricter review procedures and pledged to handle future projects with greater care and attention.

On the same day, both the event organizer and the performing percussion group issued public apologies.

They admitted that limitations in professional knowledge contributed to the misunderstanding and expressed regret over the controversy.

According to the organizer, the event was originally intended to celebrate and showcase Chinese culture.

The company added that related promotional materials have been removed and promised to improve its internal review and communication processes. (Overseasidol.com)
