Chinese fantasy adventure drama Archives: The Nanyang Mystery officially premiered on iQIYI on June 11, 2026.
This drama bringing a brand-new story set within the popular The Lost Tomb universe created by Nanpai Sanshu.
Adapted from Nanpai Sanshu’s novel of the same name, the series stars Zhang Xincheng and Ding Yuxi as secret agents Zhang Haiyan and Zhang Haixia.
Set in Southeast Asia during the early Republican era of China, the drama follows their investigation into a series of mysterious and supernatural incidents.
The story begins with a bizarre murder case known as the “Water Ghost Looking for Home” incident.
As the two agents dig deeper into the mystery, they uncover a dangerous conspiracy involving warlord Mo Yungao, who allegedly uses a toxic plant called “Twilight Grass” to spread disease and create chaos.
Their mission soon turns into a life-threatening journey filled with hidden secrets, deadly traps, and unexplained phenomena.
During the investigation, Zhang Haixia suffers a devastating injury that leaves him paralyzed. Despite the setback, the pair continue their search for answers and eventually discover clues connected to a mysterious ship known as the Nan’an Hao.
Serving as a prequel to The Lost Tomb franchise, the drama blends mystery, fantasy, adventure, and historical elements.
Its unique Southeast Asian setting offers a fresh perspective while expanding the lore of one of China’s most successful mystery universes.
The cast also includes Jiang Peiyao, Fu Dalong, Liu Lingzi, Zhang Chenxiao, Li Huan, and Jiang Zhuojun.
The series is directed by Zhou Jingtao, while Nanpai Sanshu serves as executive producer and head writer.
