Overseasidol.com — Chinese senior actor Xu Guangyu, best known for his role in the hit series In the Name of the People, has become the center of public attention after being involved in an unexpected debt dispute related to shares he once received as a gift.

According to his legal representative, Xu Guangyu attended a corporate event several years ago, where he was given a 10 percent stake in the company as a gesture of appreciation.

However, the shares were nominal in nature. He did not invest any capital, receive dividends, or participate in the company’s management.

The issue arose when the company later encountered financial difficulties and failed to repay its construction-related debts.

Creditors subsequently filed a lawsuit, seeking to hold Xu partially liable for the outstanding obligations.

The total claim amounts to approximately 300,000 yuan, including principal debt, interest, and penalties.

The case was heard on March 26 at the Huairou District People’s Court in Beijing.

No verdict was issued during the hearing, as the court recommended that both parties attempt mediation.

If mediation fails, a follow-up session will be scheduled for a final ruling.

Legal experts have highlighted that accepting shares without payment does not come without risk.

Such arrangements may carry legal responsibilities, including potential financial liabilities if the company runs into trouble.
