Overseasidol.com — Chinese actress Faye Wang Yifei has publicly apologized after being filmed twice throwing cigarette butts in public places in Beijing.
The videos, which circulated online in early November 2025, showed Wang smoking and discarding cigarette ends on the ground once while taking out the trash after returning to Beijing, and again the next day after work.
In both clips, she appeared to extinguish the cigarette with her foot but did not pick it up.
According to Beijing’s Sanitation and Environmental Regulations, discarding cigarette butts in public is considered littering, which can result in fines ranging from 20 to 200 yuan.
In more serious cases, offenders may face heavier penalties.
On November 6, Wang Yifei posted an apology statement on Weibo, writing:
“I’m deeply sorry for my uncivilized behavior in a public place. I will correct my mistake, regulate my behavior, and accept everyone’s criticism and supervision.”
The topic #WangYifeiApologizes quickly went viral, drawing wide discussion among netizens. While some accepted her apology, others pointed out that public figures should set better examples, as their actions often influence the public’s attitude toward civility and lawfulness.
The incident also reignited conversations about public etiquette and environmental responsibility. Many called for stricter enforcement of littering laws and for citizens especially celebrities to demonstrate better social awareness.
