AKB48 management company DH Co., Ltd. has officially announced the termination of its exclusive contract with AKB48 member Hanada Mei, effective June 23, 2026.

The agency released a detailed statement outlining the circumstances that led to the decision.

According to the company, Hanada had repeatedly arrived late to scheduled activities since December 2025, citing health-related issues.

In response, management temporarily suspended her activities to prioritize her well-being and allow her to focus on medical treatment and recovery.

During that period, the agency said it discovered that the idol had maintained contact with a specific fan.

While Hanada reportedly explained that the meetings occurred only twice by chance, interviews and internal investigations allegedly indicated that the meetings had taken place on multiple occasions.

The agency emphasized that personal relationships with fans are strictly prohibited within AKB48, as such actions may affect member safety, fairness within the group, and the trust of supporters.

Despite the issue, management stated that it continued to explore the possibility of she returning to the group.

However, repeated attempts to hold discussions regarding her future reportedly failed after she declined further direct communication.

The statement also addressed claims that management had forced Hanada to shave her head.

Following an internal review, the company denied the allegation and stated that no such instruction had ever been given.

In addition, the agency revealed that Hanaida requested disciplinary action against certain members and sought the removal of a ban imposed on the fan involved in the controversy.

Management explained that such matters fall under its own discretion and could not be immediately accepted.

According to the company, communication eventually proceeded through Hanada Mei’s legal representative, who later informed management that she did not wish to continue negotiations.

After reviewing all circumstances, DH Co., Ltd. concluded that terminating the contract was unavoidable.

The agency noted that this marks the first management-led contract termination involving an AKB48 member. (Overseasidol.com)
