Overseasidol.com — A new boy band project similar to AKB48’s concept, under the guidance of Akimoto Yasushi, will soon debut after the national auditions are completed.
As is well known, the idol group AKB48 (like JKT48) has a weekly performance concept, staging theater performances for audiences.
Japanese entertainment industry giants Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd., Tokyo Dome Corporation, and Y&N Brothers Inc. have officially signed a joint venture agreement to this project.
The project welcomes Akimoto Yasushi as the general producer and has opened auditions to form a brand-new male artist group.
As part of the project, Mitsui Fudosan will construct a dedicated 300-seat theater within one of its commercial facilities in Tokyo, set to open in 2026.
This theater will serve as the group’s main base, hosting regular performances, fan events, and live interactions to create fresh entertainment experiences.
Successful audition candidates will debut as a group, focusing on regular shows at the new theater.
They will also hold events at Mitsui Fudosan-operated shopping centers and other venues nationwide, aiming to grow their fanbase and expand recognition.
The ultimate goal is to progress from theater performances to large-scale concerts in arenas and domes.
The audition is open to men aged 12 to 26 (as of June 30, 2025). Applications close on September 10, 2025, and can be submitted through the official project website or the “Debut” audition portal.
Expressing his excitement, Akimoto Yasushi stated his enthusiasm about this project.
“When I heard about the plan to create a theater together with Mitsui Fudosan, I was thrilled.
Having urban development professionals build a theater to deliver entertainment will surely create a new cultural movement.
I’m honored to be entrusted as the general producer. I hope everyone can witness each moment of this process and see how the future is made,” he said.
