Overseasidol.com — The controversy surrounding the hit Chinese drama “Blossoms Shanghai” has resurfaced after reports confirmed that Cheng Junnian, also known online as “Gu Er” is now facing a legal dispute involving alleged defamation and damage to reputation.

According to Chinese business records, the Shanghai court recently issued official legal notices to Cheng Junnian, including copies of the lawsuit, evidence documents, court summons, and response notifications.

The case was filed by Shanghai Fanhuali Enterprise Development Co., Ltd. (Blossoms Island) over a reputation rights dispute.

The trial is scheduled to begin on August 21, 2026, at the Songjiang District People’s Court in Shanghai.

Reports stated that if the defendant fails to appear after the official notice period expires, the court may proceed with a default judgment according to legal procedures.

The controversy began after Cheng Junnian uploaded multiple audio recordings on social media, allegedly involving renowned filmmaker Wong Kar Wai and writer Qin Wen during the production process of “Blossoms”

In his posts, Cheng claimed that many important scenes in the drama were originally written by him and accused the production team of removing his screenwriting credit.

He also raised allegations regarding poor working conditions and claimed that staff members experienced health-related issues during production.

The accusations quickly sparked heated discussions online and attracted significant public attention in China’s entertainment industry.

In response, the “Blossoms” production team released several official statements denying the claims.

According to the production side, Cheng Junnian was only part of the project’s early research team and allegedly left the production without communication three months after filming began.

The team further claimed that Cheng took project materials without authorization and had no involvement in the drama afterward.

They also accused him of spreading heavily edited recordings and misleading interpretations that damaged the reputation of the production company and related individuals.

As a result, the production team decided to pursue legal action to protect its reputation and business interests.
