Overseasidol.com — On October 16, Chinese actor Sun Jian posted a video on social media exposing unfair and deceptive practices in the livestream e-commerce industry.
He revealed that he personally spent 20 yuan to offer viewers red packet discounts, only to find that merchants secretly raised the product price by the same amount.
In comparison, other influencers who gave out only 5 yuan red packets provided consumers with nearly the same discounts.
Sun expressed frustration, saying that his efforts and investment were being undervalued. He also criticized some influencers who flaunt luxury lifestyles online driving supercars and wearing designer brands yet refuse to contribute to viewer discounts, claiming they “can’t afford” it.
He further shared an incident involving a brand that had promised to offer 20-yuan red packets during the Double 11 shopping festival.
However, due to objections from other influencers, the brand withdrew the plan at the last minute.
To honor the original commitment, Sun ended up paying the 20-yuan subsidy himself after the brand had already raised the product price making him, in his words, “the fool helping others profit”.
Sun Jian emphasized that, as a science major, he fully understands the marketing tactics used behind the scenes.
He strongly condemned such manipulative practices, saying they deceive both the influencers and consumers.
