Overseasidol.com — On June 7, Chinese idol Zhou Shiyu announced her official departure from SNH48 and the termination of her contract with management agency Siba Media, marking the end of a turbulent seven-year journey with the group.
In an emotionally charged statement, Zhou revealed deep-seated grievances, citing a lack of respect, communication, and fair treatment from the company as key reasons for her decision.
Zhou described her experience as one filled with relentless efforts to prove herself, enduring numerous setbacks while clinging to the love from fans and the passion that first drew her into the spotlight.
However, repeated unresolved issues including neglect during her milestone birthday event, poor internal support, and being moved to a “temporary hiatus” list without her consent, pushed her to her breaking point.
Her declining health added urgency to the situation. After years of ignoring minor ailments in favor of performance commitments, Zhou was recently told by doctors that only surgery could resolve her condition.
During her recovery period, she attempted to reengage with management to seek solutions and clarity about her future, but those talks reportedly stalled.
Additionally, she alleged that financial rights, including her compensation for a third-place achievement in the SNH48 Youth Festival, were withheld without explanation.
Frustrated by what she calls one-sided decisions and the closure of negotiation channels, Zhou has now appointed legal counsel to resolve her contractual disputes and ensure her rights as an artist are upheld.
While expressing regret for the abrupt nature of her departure, she reassured fans that this pause is necessary for her recovery, and not the end of her journey.
