Overseasidol.com — Chinese actor Yu Menglong was reported to have fallen to his death on September 11, shocking the entertainment industry.

While his studio explained the incident as an “accidental fall after drinking” the case quickly stirred public suspicion, with many speculating that hidden details were being covered up.

On Chinese social media Weibo, discussions about the tragedy spread rapidly, prompting large-scale censorship.

Authorities deleted more than 100,000 posts and suspended or permanently banned over 1,000 accounts.

Additionally, comment functions were restricted for more than 15,000 users.

Weibo stated that such measures were necessary to curb conspiracy theories and to protect Yu’s family from secondary harm.

Despite the crackdown, online speculation has not ceased. Rumors linked Yu’s death to a so-called “17-person gathering” with claims of violence and power struggles.

Most of these stories remain unverified, but they have fueled public debate.

International media has also begun to cover the case. BBC Chinese reported that after Yu’s death, social platforms in China saw a flood of gossip and speculation.

However, what can be clearly observed is the strict approach authorities have taken in managing the narrative.

While officials have dismissed claims such as “being framed”, “family members being controlled” or “surveillance footage being destroyed” no detailed explanation has been provided.

This lack of clarity has only deepened suspicions and kept the controversy alive.
