Overseasidol.com — Among the new titles unveiled during GMMTV’s 2026 lineup showcase “Magic Vibes Maximized,” the series “17th Spring” has become one of the most talked-about projects.
Starring rising duo Chokun and Aston—who previously appeared together in Boys in Love, the series is an adaptation of the well-known Thai novel by Littleskyofme, praised for its emotional and meaningful storyline.
“17th Spring” is far from a typical school romance. It follows the life of Marn, a boy born with HIV transmitted from his mother. Raised by his grandmother,
Marn grows up facing constant discrimination and isolation, with very few friends and many people avoiding him.
Despite his struggles, he remains optimistic and continues to navigate life with a bright smile.
At seventeen, Marn’s world collapses when his grandmother the only person who cared for him passes away. Left alone with no relatives willing to take him in, he is eventually adopted by his grandmother’s youngest brother, an uncle he has never met.
In this new environment where no one knows about his condition, Marn begins forming new friendships.
True to his nature, he refuses to lie and openly reveals his HIV status an honesty that only one person can accept: Than, a boy who once abandoned his passion for swimming due to a painful past.
Than initially distances himself from everyone, including Marn. But Marn’s sincerity and optimism gradually soften his guarded heart.
Their relationship slowly evolves from understanding, to friendship, and eventually into something deeper.
Because the story involves sensitive themes, audiences initially worried that the adaptation might risk misrepresentation or criticism.
However, Aston, who plays Marn, reassured fans that the team fully recognizes the importance of portraying HIV awareness correctly.
He promised that everyone involved is committed to giving their best.
Director New Siwaj also confirmed that although he and his team are writing the script, they will work closely with the original author to maintain accuracy and respect the source material.
He emphasized that they are ready to listen to feedback and continuously improve the series.
The pilot has already been well-received, especially for highlighting educational messages such as the distinction between HIV and AIDS and the fact that people living with HIV can lead healthy lives with proper treatment.
If the full series remains faithful to the novel, “17th Spring” could become both an impactful artistic work and a valuable source of public awareness.
