Overseasidol.com — Chinese streaming giant iQIYI has ignited widespread discussion after its CEO Gong Yu introduced a new “AI Artist Library” during the iQIYI World Conference 2026 on April 20.

According to the announcement, more than 100 artists have agreed to join the Nadou Pro platform, allowing potential AI-powered collaborations in content production.

Among those mentioned are popular actors such as Chen Zheyuan, Cheng Lei, and Joseph Zeng.

Gong Yu suggested that traditional live-action filming could eventually become a rarity, as AI technology evolves.

He highlighted the demanding schedules actors face today, often working non-stop for months.

With AI integration, actors could theoretically participate in more projects simultaneously while enjoying better work-life balance.

In addition, iQIYI introduced “Chi Jing AI” a user-friendly creative tool designed for general users and amateur creators.

The platform enables the rapid production of short videos, mini-series, and animated content, complementing the Nadou Pro ecosystem.

The announcement quickly triggered strong reactions online, with many users questioning whether audiences would accept AI-generated performances over real human acting.

The debate went viral, reflecting growing concerns about authenticity and creativity in the entertainment industry.

Amid the controversy, several artists including Yu Hewei, Zhang Ruoyun, Wang Churan, and Li Yitong issued statements through their teams denying any agreement to AI-related projects.

In response, iQIYI clarified that inclusion in the AI Artist Library does not mean automatic participation in AI productions.

Instead, it serves as a structured platform for creators to connect with artists, with each project still requiring individual negotiation and consent, similar to traditional filmmaking processes.

The company emphasized that AI integration in entertainment remains in an experimental phase and pledged to balance technological innovation with the protection of artists’ rights, creators’ interests, and audience expectations.
