Overseasidol.com — Hong Kong music legend Jacky Cheung has once again become a hot topic after responding to long-standing rumors about debt and bankruptcy.
In a recent interview reported by Hong Kong media, the singer often called the “God of Songs” firmly denied having any habit of borrowing money, emphasizing that he has always lived a frugal and financially cautious life.
Cheung explained that he has a strong saving habit and is very careful with his finances.
He noted that the more he tries to clarify the situation, the more some people assume he is hiding something.
However, he stressed that the truth is simple he does not borrow money from others.
The rumors had spread online claiming that Jacky Cheung was bankrupt, heavily in debt, and that his wife, May Lo, had allegedly spent a huge portion of the family fortune.
His continued concert tours at his current age were even speculated to be an attempt to earn money to repay debts.
In fact, Cheung had already addressed similar claims during a concert in Guangzhou last year, where he openly stated that he is extremely conservative when it comes to money management.
He described himself as “stingy” in financial matters, rarely making large investments and always being prudent.
He also shared that since childhood, his mother taught him that borrowing money is difficult and should be avoided whenever possible.
Because of this mindset, Cheung said his concerts today are not driven by financial pressure, but by personal happiness and his desire to let more audiences hear him sing live.
In the same interview, Jacky Cheung also responded to fans’ hopes for a reunion of Hong Kong’s legendary “Four Heavenly Kings”.
He remarked that the title was simply a symbol of a particular era. According to him, the singers themselves never officially labeled their group that way, and times have changed.
His comments suggest that while nostalgia remains powerful, the entertainment landscape is no longer the same.
