Overseasidol.com — Taiwanese music icon Jay Chou has officially made his comeback with a brand-new album titled Children of the Sun, marking his first major release in nearly four years.
On March 24, he held a global premiere for the music video of the title track along with a press conference at a cinema venue, allowing fans to join both offline and online.
The nearly seven-minute music video generated huge anticipation through its visually rich teasers featuring a Parisian church setting, 19th-century-style interiors, and a high production budget exceeding 20 million yuan.
Filmed across Paris and Taipei, the project took more than two years to complete.
The MV notably pays homage to around 30 world-famous paintings, including Der Kuss, Nighthawks, Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear and Pipe, and The Death of Marat.
During the launch event, Jay Chou explained that the album’s title reflects his intention to deliver positive energy through music.
He shared that everyone has inner struggles or darker emotions, but the key lies in learning how to face and overcome them.
The title track itself was originally composed as a concert opening theme, which is why it carries a grand and layered musical arrangement.
The inspiration behind the album name also traces back to his 2023 concert tour in Hong Kong, where continuous rain often stopped just before showtime.
Legendary singer Jacky Cheung once gifted him a mango labeled “Children of the Sun”, along with a handwritten note, a gesture that deeply moved him and later influenced the album’s title.
Released globally on digital platforms on March 25, the album features 13 tracks, including a special song dedicated to fans titled “Christmas Star”.
Even before its full release, digital sales reportedly surpassed hundreds of thousands of copies.
