The upcoming remake project “Meteor Shower Returns” has sparked fresh discussion after screenwriter Wang Hailin, one of the creators behind the hit drama “Meteor Shower” publicly raised concerns about copyright and intellectual property rights.

Speaking in an interview on June 11, 2026, Wang Hailin revealed that he had not been contacted by the production team regarding any copyright-related matters.

He noted that both the title and several character names appear to be closely connected to the original work.

According to Wang, no official communication has taken place concerning authorization or licensing.

As a result, he stated that he plans to consult legal professionals to better understand the copyright implications surrounding the new project.

Beyond the legal concerns, Wang Hailin also shared his views on the growing trend of remaking classic idol dramas.

He argued that “Meteor Shower” has already become a major source of inspiration for many modern romance dramas, including popular short-form series and wealthy-heir storylines.

In his opinion, revisiting the same concept without significant innovation may fail to resonate with contemporary audiences.

He suggested that the entertainment industry should focus more on developing original stories rather than relying heavily on remakes.

Wang also reflected on the creative vision behind the original drama.

He explained that he intentionally avoided emphasizing the characters’ privileged backgrounds and instead focused on themes related to education, professional skills, personal growth, and positive values. (Overseasidol.com)
