Overseasidol.com — Japanese idol group SKE48 has responded to growing concerns about the future of their theater in Nagoya following the acquisition of Sunshine Sakae, the building that houses the SKE48 Theater, by Yodobashi Holdings.

In a recent interview, executives including the president of KeyHolder Inc. confirmed that there have been no immediate changes affecting the theater’s operations.

“So far, we have not received any requests for rent increases or notices to vacate from the new building owner,” said the management representative.

However, the current lease is based on a fixed-term contract, which is set to expire in approximately three years.

The company plans to negotiate an extension but is also preparing for alternative scenarios.

Management acknowledged that several factors, including the aging condition of the building and facilities, may influence future decisions. Relocating or constructing a new theater is among the options being considered.

“We are exploring the possibility of moving to a new location and developing a new theater if necessary,” the representative added.

They are also evaluating whether maintaining a dedicated theater remains the most effective approach, or if using various venues could offer greater flexibility.

Despite uncertainties, management emphasized that theater performances will continue to be the core of SKE48’s identity and activities.

The theater not only serves as a performance venue but also plays a crucial role in maintaining strong engagement with fans. Financially, the theater is reportedly stable as long as operations remain consistent.

“The theater is at the heart of SKE48, and we intend to preserve that,” management stated.

As of now, no final decision has been made regarding relocation or structural changes.
