Singaporean filmmaker Anthony Chen is serving as the jury president for the Asian New Talent section at the Golden Goblet Awards of the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival.
He shared high praise for Chinese actress Wen Qi during a media session on June 14.
Speaking to reporters, Chen said he has never viewed Wen Qi as someone younger or less experienced despite her age.
Instead, he described her as an artist with remarkable maturity and a clear perspective.
“I don’t see Wen Qi as a junior at all because I feel that her soul is incredibly mature.
When you talk to her, you realize she has strong ideas and a very clear way of thinking,” Chen said.
His comments quickly drew attention online, with many film enthusiasts praising Wen Qi for her professionalism and artistic depth.
The young actress has built a strong reputation in recent years through her impressive performances and diverse choice of roles.
Anthony Chen also spoke about his experience leading this year’s jury panel. He admitted that he initially expected disagreements among the jurors during the selection process.
However, he noted that the panel members have shared the same goal from the beginning: recognizing outstanding films and emerging talents.
“I was worried that we might end up arguing, but so far everyone has the same objective, which is to choose the best works,” he said with a laugh. (Overseasidol.com)
